KARATE

Karate is a disciplined martial art that emphasizes respect, mental focus and body strengthening. The child progresses through different levels of training with the acquisition of new skills. Skills must be demonstrated by testing. When tests are successfully completed, the student is promoted to a new rank, either a belt or stripe. The style of Karate taught is Okinawa Goju Ryu (Hard/Soft Style) founded by Chjun Miyagi Sensei and fictionalized in the movie, "The Karate Kid." The terms Hard/Soft refer to the combination of Karate and Kung-Fu elements. The student learns how to block, strike and kick. This is developed into kata training with a focus on mind-body conditioning and master. Uniforms are not required. Track pants without pockets and T-shirts are suitable. Extra fees will be required for belts and gradings at the end of the second session.
Instructor, Annabelle Kolomeisky, has a black belt in Goju Ryu Karate. She is a dynamic, enthusiastic instructor who has taught Goju Ryu Karate to children and and adults for 3 years.
